The University of Michigan has big plans for its Wyoming field station. They are going to spend $9. 2 million to tear down some old buildings. This includes a mess hall that's been around for 96 years. The university's board of regents said yes to this plan on October 16th.

The field station is 120 acres and is used for studying earth and environmental sciences. It was set up way back in 1929. The old mess hall and other buildings are too old and don't work well anymore. So, they are going to build new stuff instead.

First, they will build a new dining hall. It will be 5, 000 square feet and have modern kitchen stuff. They will also build a new classroom and office building. This one will be 1, 800 square feet and have a basement for storing equipment.

They will also upgrade the electricity and water systems to support the new buildings. The money for this project is coming from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. The parking situation won't change because of this project.

A company called Krikor Architecture will design the new buildings. They have already put a blueprint of the plan on their website. The work is supposed to be done by spring 2027.

This is a big change for the field station. It will be interesting to see how the new buildings help with their studies. It's always good to have modern facilities for learning and research.
