The Washington Commanders are shaking things up on defense. After a rough season so far, head coach Dan Quinn is stepping in to call the defensive plays. He made the announcement on Monday, saying he will take over from Joe Whitt Jr. , who will stay on as part of the defensive staff.

Quinn didn't beat around the bush. He said when things aren't working, it's time to make changes. The Commanders have been struggling, allowing a lot of points and yards. They've given up the second-most passing yards in the league and rank near the bottom in overall defense. Their latest loss to Detroit was a clear example of their struggles, giving up 546 yards and 44 points.

Quinn and Whitt have worked together before, so this isn't their first time collaborating. They were part of the Cowboys' defense from 2021 to 2023. Quinn was the defensive coordinator, and Whitt was in charge of the pass game and secondary. They also worked together in 2020 when Quinn was the Falcons' head coach.

Quinn made it clear that Whitt will still be involved in planning and preparing for games. On game days, Whitt will be in the press box, helping with coverage and strategy. Quinn said they have a good working relationship and will lean on that experience to turn things around.
