The weather in Metro Detroit is set to take a wild ride this week. It all starts with a pleasant Sunday. The day began with a chill, temperatures hovering between 30 and 40 degrees. But by afternoon, things warmed up nicely, reaching the mid-60s. As night fell, the skies stayed mostly clear, and temperatures dipped to the low 40s in many areas. A few spots, like Livonia and Dearborn, saw lows around 45 degrees. A gentle breeze from the south-southeast kept things from getting too cold.

        Monday is shaping up to be a delightful day. The sun will shine brightly, and warmer air will sweep in from the south. Temperatures will climb to the lower 70s, although areas near Lake Huron might see slightly cooler temps in the mid-60s. Winds will pick up a bit, blowing steadily from the south at 6 to 12 mph, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph. As the day turns to night, clouds will start to roll in, and temperatures will hover in the lower to mid-60s.

        Tuesday is when things get interesting. The day will start with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. More storms are expected to develop in the afternoon and early evening as a cold front moves in. There's a slight risk, level two out of five, that some of these storms could become severe. Even if the storms don't intensify, it will be a hot and breezy day. Temperatures will soar to the lower 80s, and winds will blow strongly from the south-southwest at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. The night will bring partly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping to the low 40s.

        Looking ahead to Wednesday and Thursday, things will cool down a bit. Temperatures will settle in the lower to mid-60s. Wednesday will be partly cloudy, while Thursday might see some rain showers under mostly cloudy skies. This weather pattern is pretty typical for early May in Southeast Michigan. Average highs are usually in the mid-60s, and lows are in the mid-40s. It's a good idea to stay prepared for changing weather conditions.
