The White House has sent a budget draft to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  The draft is for the fiscal year 2026.  It suggests big changes to space-related activities.  This includes the Geostationary Extended Observations program.  This program is set to launch a new generation of weather satellites in the early 2030s.     The budget draft also wants to transfer the space traffic coordination system.  This system is called the Traffic Coordination System for Space.  It is being developed by the Office of Space Commerce within NOAA.  The system is set to be fully operational by next January.  The transfer would be to a non-government entity, like a company or nonprofit.  This change would not save much money.  The office requested $75. 6 million for the fiscal year 2025.  Most of this would be spent on the space traffic system.

    Many scientists and members of Congress are worried about these changes.  They are part of broader changes proposed for NOAA.  These changes focus on climate programs.
